Alajuela
Alajuela only 2 miles from the International Airport Juan Santamaría: the birthplace of the national hero Juan Santamaría and the figure who gives the name of the country’s main international airport.
Alajuela is located a little below the height of San José which makes its climate a bit warmer. In the center there are lush parks, especially the shadowy Parque Central with its cathedral is worth a visit.
West of the park is Alajuela’s central market, which takes up an entire city block and is a great place to shop.
You will quickly make stop at the monument of Juan Santamaría on the way to a coffee plantation you visit during the One Day Tour to Poas and La Paz Waterfall & Gardens from San José.
The hilly countryside is spotted with numerous coffee plantations, which can be visited during a guided coffee tour: Visiting the largest coffee plantation in Costa Rica will allow you to learn everything about the process related to cultivation, processing and good practices, as well as the natural and cultural environment.
Alajuela is not very famous for it’s chocolate, but while your free time, we invite you to discover an amazing chocolate tour close to the airport. Additionally you can even get to do your own bar of chocolate, a lot of fun for children. Furthermore, do try and visit Zoo Ave and / or the Butterfly Farm, which lie just outside of town.
These places are ideal to visit for families with children!
Adventure Activities
Embrace a day of adventure mixing three of the most thrilling and fun ways to explore nature. Do all this while ziplining down the mountain, crossing pristine tropical rivers and off-road tracks through the forest on an ATV, and then a scenic horse ride along the beach, through farmland and quaint towns.
